One tobacco cessation campaign, four countries, during a pandemic
The situation. Tobacco use and COVID-19 presented overlapping health risks in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine. The campaign needed to encourage tobacco cessation while accommodating different cultures, media environments, implementing partners, and local services.
What I did. I managed the CDC-supported United Against Tobacco and COVID-19 campaign across all four countries, coordinating implementing partners, schedules, deliverables, and federal contract requirements. My responsibility was keeping the country-specific activities aligned with shared campaign objectives while navigating the operational challenges of delivering a multinational initiative during COVID-19. I also presented the regional campaign strategy to a World Health Organization tobacco workgroup.
